I remember a friendof mine telling us that she was bothered by the fact that she wasn't preparedto be a martyr. I don't know if she said her spiritual director told her (or Iimagined telling her) she might not be called to be one. Putting it more bluntly, imagine God telling her, "Bakit? Who said I wanted you to be one?" I guess that kind of thinking qualifies as useless anxiety.
In that sense then, persecution for one's faith and martyrdom is a special gift from God grantedonly to a few people and the Gospel for today reassures us that when thesituation comes (if it ever does), the graces needed to get through it will be provided.
